EV Private Equity teams up with ClimatePartner

As a technology focussed impact investor, passionate about creating a sustainable energy future, we’re always looking to be part of initiatives that take action against climate change and fight global warming. The energy sector serves as the lifeblood of economic activity, personal and social wellbeing, and we understand that while we are investing in the technologies that will decarbonise the industry, we cannot avoid certain operational emissions being generated.

To combat this, we’ve teamed up with ClimatePartner to offset EV’s annual greenhouse gas emissions. Our 2020 Scope 1-3 emission calculations were verified by ClimatePartner’s strict procedures and validated accordingly, to allow for a correct offsetting process.

ClimatePartner supports a wide range of projects in various local communities across the globe, allowing people to enjoy better living conditions. These projects demonstrably reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect the climate. Without offsetting carbon, we will not achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement on climate change that will enable a sustainable future.

We chose to support the Ecomapuá forest protection project in Pará, Brazil to ensure the area is preserved in the long term, and the protection of forests is given a higher value than deforestation. Forests are not only among the planet’s most important carbon reservoirs, they also are home to an enormous diversity of species and are the livelihood for the region’s people. However, global forest areas have declined sharply in recent decades due to increasing settlement, agricultural use, illegal logging and mining.

The project generates income and educational opportunities for local communities, contributing to improved human conditions in these areas. On 90,000 hectares, the Ecomapuá project protects the forest and prohibits commercial deforestation. For the 94 resident families, it also creates alternative sources of income, for example by trading the açaí fruit.
