ARKeX Upgrade FTG Aircraft Fleet
ARKeX, the geophysical services provider, has added a new De Havilland Twin Otter aircraft to its fleet of Full Tensor Gravity Gradiometry (FTG) survey aircraft. Now ARKeX’s entire fleet is made up of twin engine aircraft.
“The delivery of this aircraft is important to ARKeX and our clients for a number of reasons,” said Rich Foster-Turner, Chief Operating Officer at ARKeX. “Firstly a twin engine aircraft is inherently safer for low level survey operations and across transition zones. Secondly this particular aircraft has been upgraded to give greater range and endurance and this, coupled with its short take-off and landing (STOL) capabilities, is of great benefit to our clients who operate in remote frontier areas”.
The Twin Otter is a versatile aircraft and ideally suited to survey operations. In addition to the FTG (Full Tensor Gravity Gradiometer), each aircraft is also equipped with a scalar gravity sensor (to add signal power at longer spatial wavelengths), a stinger mounted magnetometer and LiDAR system (to provide a digital terrain model).
ARKeX’s FTG survey data is used by oil, gas and mineral exploration companies to provide a high resolution image of subsurface geology. The surveys measure minute variations in the Earth’s gravitational field to help build a picture of geological anomalies that can be used to more accurately target oil, gas and mineral deposits. FTG data can be used alongside seismic data to provide an improved interpretation and also as a stand-alone service that is often used in frontier areas to effectively place future seismic programs.
